It's been a long time coming, but I finally managed to finish LA Noire on the Nintendo Switch. I say finally, because the main impression I got from this game (or at least this version of it because it includes additional DLC missions) is that it takes a lot longer than it probably should. The game is structured in 4 main arcs, each with its own type of crimes: traffic, homicide, vice, and arson. Even though the stories and characters vary in each one, the game cycle remains largely the same, making the game feel repetitive after a while. This isn't helped by the fact that even though this is an open world game (in classic RockStar fashion), there really isn't much to do besides find hidden cars and respond to side missions, but even these lack the variety to make them worth your while. They do provide XP, but once you make it to level 15, you're capped, losing all incentive to do them. Not all is bad, though. Despite playing this game in 2019, the facial expressions remain impressive, and I still can't think of a game as successful on this front as this one. Additionally, the atmosphere of LA in the 40s is captured to great effect, from the environments, cars, and character models. Voice acting is also superb (in line with all major RockStar releases). The story itself is quite gritty and worthy of the noire label, full of drama and dark turns. Overall, I feel this game accomplishes what it sets out to do: tell a believable noire story through detective work. I don't think it's a bad game by any means, but I feel the target audience for it is limited to those who enjoy the genre and are looking for a deep story where gameplay and action take a back seat. #randomselect #gaming #nintendo #switch #nintendoswitch #capture #lanoire #rockstargames #la #madmen #mystery #noire #detective #1940s #gamereview #review #gamereviews #nss
